A stray Calico kitten began meowing at our back patio door around 6pm. We said hello, and then quickly shut the door. She remained there for close to three hours. She meowed louder and she climbed our screen door. We shut the screen, closed the glass door, and shut the blinds. We thought she had taken the hint. Then we heard the meowing at the front door! By this time it was getting late and it was very cold. We couldn't take it anymore, so we let her in, and gave her a half of can of tuna and some water. She sauntered in like she owned the place, ate like she hadn't eaten in days, and then curled up on James' chest and fell asleep! He was a goner, and so, yes, us non-pet people, us "if we ever get a pet it will be when we get a house and it will be dog" people, now have a kitty!
Savanna has been wanting a pet for years and unbeknown to James and I has been praying for a pet (here is the problem with teaching your children the power of prayer!). :) She specifically prayed that our hearts would be softened, and it's only day three of having our little kitty and we all are in love.
Her name has changed several times, but we finally agreed today as a family on what her name would be. Since we found her on September 11th, we are naming her Liberty...but the kids call her Libby. It fits, and she likes it. :)
She is supposed to be an outdoor cat. She stayed outside on our patio all day yesterday. However so far today, she has been inside all day! We are just watching to see if Brad has any problems with his allergies. If he is okay, we will take her to the vet, and make it official. If he can't tolerate the hair/dander factor, we will find her a good home, hopefully somewhere close where we can visit!
Liberty is a very mellow, laid back cat. She loves to cuddle and sit on our laps. She purrs constantly. She is just very sweet, even to the boys who aren't always the most gentle. Brad means well, but he can't help himself sometimes. He gets very excited to see her and will run at her- she doesn't really like that. Ben, of course, has already kicked her and slammed her head in a door, and I caught him just about to stick one of his miniature light sabers in her ear! She didn't even scratch him or anything! But, he got in SERIOUS trouble with James and I. He WILL learn to be gentle! (Ben really is a sweet boy, but I think he suffers from an excessive imagination. His brain works like, "I wonder what would happen if..." We all do that to some degree, but he actually goes through with a lot of his what ifs- like, "I wonder what would happen if I stick this in Libby's ear!)
At any rate, here she is- the newest member of the Wyett Fam: Liberty!
Since she was a stray, she was very dirty and smelly. We found a good soap, and gave her a bath. We prepared ourselves by watching Youtube videos...we were expecting the worst. She was so great! She definitely didn't love it, but she only meowed once and she didn't freak out!
