We had another wonderful day of exploring. I took Savanna and Ben (Brad is still under the weather) up to the city of Arroyo Grande to meet our home school field trip class. We went to the charming Santa Manuela Schoolhouse, and The Historical Society's Barn, and Heritage House Museum. Santa Manuela is a restored one-room school house that was built back in 1901 and was used until 1957! The docents rang the school bell, brought the kids in, and had them sit at the desks. The teacher stood at the front of the class and explained what a day for kids their age at this school was like. They wrote their names on boards made of slate, took turns ringing the school bell, and even sat in the dunce chair! Everyone pointed and lauged at Savanna.:)
Outside, the barn was full of old stuff- tools, appliances, fire engines, wagons- even a piano that could play tunes all by itself! Ben especially liked the wandering rooster and Savanna thought the old-school carriage was neat. The Heritage House Museum was built in the 1800's and is full of furniture and appliances from that time period. Overall, very cool. :)

A really fun afternoon. Everyone should take the kids here at least once. The docents are very nice and informative, the surrounding area is beautiful, and it's just a quick walk across the bridge to downtown AG!
