Our Spontaneous Utah Trip

James received an email two weeks ago (It was Thursday morning, June 25th) about a missionary reunion in Provo, UT that coming Saturday. James happened to be off work for a few days, so we packed the kids, made a quick stop at Trader Joes for some grub, and hit the road!

We had such a great time. There is something to be said about a spontaneous trip. We didn't have anyone to see or anywhere to be until Saturday evening. We didn't have time to map things out and try to cram in a bunch of stuff. So we mostly drove around, enjoyed each others' company, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

The kids had never been to Utah, so we definitely wanted to take them to Salt Lake City to see Temple Square. James' school, George Wythe University, (where he is enrolled in their distance learning program) is in Cedar City, so we wanted to stop off there as well. We stayed at some really nice motels that each had indoor pools and spas. The kids loved waking up and going swimming in a heated indoor pool at eight in the morning- so fun!

Also, as members of the church, Utah is a fun experience. There are billboards for food storage and Zion banks and chapels on every corner. Very different than California, and almost comical. The kids had a fun time counting chapels and temples along our trek.

I wish we had taken more pictures, but we were on the road most of the time and taking pictures from the car is not very easy! I captured a good amount of the fun though.

Our Car Ride:

I had to take a picture of myself so there was proof that I was on this trip too! The kids did awesome on the road! Savanna was such a great help reading and playing with them. We drove most of Thursday, on and off Friday and Saturday, and then were in the car 15 hours on Sunday! Still, they were great sports. They slept pretty well at the motels too, which was a big relief. It's really great that they are old enough to travel with when needed. Even bringing along Brad's special food was easy enough with the cooler in the car. Plus, he keeps us from eating out too much which again is good for the wallet and the body!
I'll publish the rest of our pictures in the next couple of posts- stay tuned!
