It's Finally Happening...I Think (And Christmas Too)!

Well, I will be publishing the "Wyett Family Home Buying Saga" shortly, but let me suffice to say that this past week and a half has been a roller coaster something fierce! We have been tossed around, lied to, left hanging, misinformed, nearly heart-broken, and then all of the sudden we are told our loan has been approved and we can get keys in two days! What?!? So, we have been in a packing frenzy. Thanks to some wonderful friends, we have most of the house packed already! I had to go to the store today to buy paper plates because I packed the majority of my kitchen today. We are hoping there aren't any more delays, and we will be official home owners by Wednesday, December 28th!!

Our Christmas, well, it was pretty anticlimactic this year. We read the nativity story in Luke, opened presents and ate the traditional breakfast casserole. Then we packed, made phone calls, ended up at Del Taco for dinner, and then wandered around Home Depot aimlessly for 2 hours with our tired children, awakening our senses to the reality of home ownership (we celebrated Christmas two days early because James worked Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). It was weird...but a good weird...kind of.

The boys made gifts for everyone. Emma got this cute card. I got a broken army man and some of my mail that I had been looking for. Can't remember what Dad and Savanna got...but it was of the same caliber! And the sweetest part was that Brad and Ben were sincerely excited to give us these gifts. After being tortured with scriptures and prayer while their presents called to them from under the tree, they still insisted we open our gifts first! It was very cute.

Christmas Day the children and I kept our tradition of visiting elderly people or others who were alone on Christmas. The children made cards, and we packed up our fudge in pretty tins and set out to spread some Christmas cheer! As we started up the 101 thick raindrops began pounding our windshield. By the time we reached the senior center it was pouring! We quickly ran inside and had a two hour visit with our friend Rita who we met on Thanksgiving. She had found our number and had called us the week before to tell us she had made the boys and James knitted hats and matching scarves! The boys were thrilled to receive their hats (although Benjamin informed Rita that he wished his was yellow!).

Emma really liked Rita too. We called Rita that morning to tell her we'd be by, and she was elated. All of her family is on the East Coast, and she was spending Christmas day all alone. When we arrived she was all dolled up in a Christmasy outfit with matching earrings. It reminded me a bit of my grandma. She was very festive and loved to entertain guests. Rita was sincerely thankful for the cards and goodies, and each of the boys gave her a nickel from their piggy banks. :) We plan on visiting Rita once a month, and promised her that we would have her over for dinner once we were settled in our new place.

We visited 4 more people, dashing in and out of the rain. Emma was a trooper and the boys behaved very well. When we arrived home there was a message from my hubby saying how sad he was to be away from us on Christmas. We only had an hour before he would be home, so we threw together a big spaghetti dinner with salad and garlic bread, lit candles, and turned on his favorite Christmas Cd. He was very surprised when he arrived home, and we enjoyed a beautiful Christmas dinner after all. :)

She turned 4 months on Dec 23rd...can you believe it?!?

One of the many gifts from Grandma! The kids were able to open all their presents from Grandma, Auntie Marsha, and Uncle Greggy via Skpe. Technology is so cool!

I hope you all had a very wonderful Christmas. Christmas is a great time to reflect on those candle-lit moments sitting around the table with those that you love, praying together, eating together, and laughing together. I am feeling very blessed indeed, and excited about a new year!

The boys were very excited about their real tools! They went around measuring everything and Bradley insists on wearing his safety goggles whenever a tool is in his hand!
