Still Trying to Make Things WORK

We are still trying to make our house "fit" our needs. And it seems that our needs change every couple of months, and so we change our living space to accommodate our new circumstances. Did you follow me? Well, Savanna is starting high school (at home), but she is also starting Seminary. Seminary is a wonderful scripture study class held at our church every morning at 6:30 AM for all of the high school students. It is a great opportunity for her, but will take some sacrifice on all of our parts to get her there and back each school day. She will be getting up at 5am to dress and eat, and I do NOT want my other kids up that early or my day will be a mess! So, we had to find a separate place for her to sleep so that she could set her alarm and not wake the boys (They were all sleeping in the large bedroom downstairs with the large walk-in closet).

So, we decided to turn that huge walk-in closet into Savanna's new bedroom! It actually worked out really well. The bed fit perfectly along with her books, and bags (and all her clothes were all ready in there). It doesn't look so huge anymore, but it will have to do.

Savanna likes it a lot. She can stay up and read on her bed now without disturbing her brothers. It even has a lock on the door (OK, the lock is on the outside of the door and Ben HAS locked her IN a couple times! Doh!). :)

I also was sick of a Spiderman tent being in my living room, so we decided to turn our living room into our dining room. I actually really like it. We spend most of our day doing school at the table or eating, so it just makes sense to have the largest room in our house be the room we spend the most time in.

It also freed up a space (our dining room) to turn into an office that we have blocked off from Emma. Having the computer downstairs is SO much better. We can utilize it more for school and not disturb Emma's naps, or I can look up recipes while I cook, or work on business stuff here or there. We've decided that we really don't need a couch at all. We don't have a TV, and we rarely have company, so why have a couch take up so much of our living space? It's funny how you think you have to be like everyone else...even by setting up your house like "normal people" set up their house. I'm not claiming to be normal by any stretch of the imagination but it's a nice reminder that every family is different, and their home should work for them.
