We found out last week that James secured one of the two spots for the new deputy position! We are all excited, nervous, happy, nervous, proud...did I mention nervous? James has been running around like a crazy person trying to get all of his gear and uniforms ready for the academy, finish some last minute tests, exercise, and get all of his questions answered. I am trying to yet again simplify, have him do some last minute things around the house, and am trying desperately to remain positive and supportive (some days are better than others). It will be a very difficult 5 months, for sure. I know that there will be a lot of growth on both sides, but I am not looking forward to his absence. He isn't sure when or if he will be able to come home on weekends for the first month or so. This particular academy is a "high stress" academy, and the demands both physically and mentally might keep him there on the weekends to study or prepare in other ways for the upcoming week. The children seem to be handling the news pretty well. I'm sure there will be a natural adjustment for everyone. The good news is once he graduates on March 10th of next year he will be sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff. They work four, 10 hour days per week, and he will get a substantial raise. It's just five months, right? Nothing to it.
We had prayed very hard about James' decision to apply for this position. He did extremely well during the interview process (obviously), and everything happened so quickly and fell right into place that there is really no doubt in our minds that this is what he is supposed to do. So we did what any other family would do: The kids and I surprised him with a little party to celebrate! Several friends stopped by to congratulate him, and it was a very fun night. We love you, Babe! We are so very proud of you. You inspire us with your drive to always better yourself and your position to provide for us. We will miss you terribly, but will be rooting for your success. We can't wait to celebrate your graduation and homecoming in a little over 23 weeks!!
Our Count Down Chain- every Friday the kids will cut a link off of our chain. When they are all gone, Dad will be home. :)

Congratulations Wyett family!!! It will be tough the next 5 months but you guys are one tough cookies.. It is always hard trying to make sacrifices but once said and done the rewards speak for themselves. It will pay off in the end.. I love the chain idea at the end! Good Luck James you will do great!
