Ben's Special Day- Part One

Our wonderful Benjamin turns 5 on Thursday. James was scheduled to work so we decided to celebrate today, Tuesday. Our great weather didn't hold up, and we had to find fun things to do in rainy weather. This is not too common of a problem on the Central Coast, so we had to think about it for bit. What we came up with turned out to be a fantastic day. Ben had a blast, and so did the rest of the fam!

A friend of ours is a fire marshal, and he set up a private tour of the Arroyo Grande fire station. The firemen were wonderful with the boys. Ben and Brad were super excited, and asked a ton of questions. Benjamin especially wants to be a fireman, so his little face just lit up the entire time. It was adorable to watch how fascinated he was by all the trucks and equipment. They even showed him their sleeping quarters, and he got to try out the fire pole!

Ben went in full fireman uniform and informed all the fireman that he was the fire chief.

This was the fireman, John, who gave us a tour. He showed the boys everything and was extremely patient and funny with them.

After our tour of the fire station, we headed over to 5 Cities Swim Club for swimming lessons. Bradley swam across the entire pool without his life jacket for the first time! Benjamin is doing pretty good too, and Savanna is of course a pro.

Next, we headed over to have some sorbet at a local frozen yogurt shop. I've never seen anyone eat an ice cream cone like Ben. He eats the top with a spoon, then eats one side of the cone and then the other...you have to see it in person...but you may not want to.

Ben's favorite part of the day: Going to pick out his birthday present, a big boy bike! He immediately saw this green, sporty bike complete with a reflector (which he thinks is a light), and a hand brake. We were in and out of the store in 15 minutes, and the bike was on sale- sweet!

Then it was off to the library for some books and movies. I love the Arroyo Grande library. We ended up renting over 30 books, books on CD, movies, and CDs.

We ended our day at Klondike Pizza where on Tuesday nights they have an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet and salad bar. It's pretty fun. Neither one of the boys wanted pizza, so they ordered something else. Their favorite part was the roasted peanuts. They eat them by the handfuls and love that they can just throw them on the floor. Savanna and James had a contest to see how much pizza they could eat- James won, hands down!

We arrived home to a message on our machine from James' sergeant saying he didn't have to work Thursday after all! So, looks like Ben gets to have 2 special days with the whole family. We are hoping the weather is clear so he can ride his new bike. He is really excited about it, and has been riding it around our living room while I've been posting all these pictures! Not something we usually let him do, but it's still brand new and the tires are clean. :)

Happy Birthday, Ben Ben! We absolutely adore you, and had a fun day celebrating your birthday!
